The Story Behind "Lunker Art by Nate" - Updated Last year, my then 9 year old son dreamt all day, every day about fishing. So he took up researching the fish he dreams of catching and began drawing them freehand. Soon, his piles of artwork were filling the house. I said, "Wow, you're getting to be quite the artist! Can I buy one of your originals?"
He laughed and said, "Sure..I'll give 50% to my favorite charities." So I did...just to encourage him. And he decided that he wanted to do more.
So, I began teaching him how to scan his artwork and save to the computer. Next we made up a watermark for him and titled it "Lunker Art" (a "lunker" is the name given to a really big fish). Then we began using an online printing company to help us make the cards. Bearpaw was generous to allow Nate to become a sponsor and sell his cards here at no-charge to get him started. (
I'm so grateful for Bearpaw!) Then you, the customer, came in and made his day. (

He sold about $200 worth of cards and donated $100 to charities at Christmas!
Today, he's still drawing and refining his craft. He's partnered with a local printing company (buy local) and he's selling his artwork on note cards, calendars, and note paper to use to buy fishing gear for himself and while continuing to give 50% to charity. This year, he's paid the site sponsor ad and has taken out a "loan" from his father to pay for the first batch of cards. His goal - to make net profits of $800 (allowing him to give away $400 to others in need!) I'm so proud of him and his desire.
