Went out today (9/1) for the Forest Grouse Opener with the wife and my springer, "Walter The Wonder Dog". The NE WA woods were still, muggy, and buggy with a mid-70's temp. Walter did his thing and got up three ruffed grouse on different flushes. Only one flush provided a decent shooting  opportunity...MISS! Walter showed signs of heat stress; so we quit at mid-morning. Fun nonetheless and 7 year old Walter was in near perfect form; especially for an Opening Day hunt.

26 doves for the 4 of us.  Bennick was the dead eye with either a limit or a near limit.   He will have some definite competition tomorrow morning.  No taking it easy for the youngsters tomorrow. >:(

Grouse and Quail
There are only two types of dogs: wolves and wirehaireds.

if you did shoot some quail I hope you were in a different state or on a pay to hunt release area.

Oh yes sorry forgot to mention I'm over here in OR. I will get up there later this season for some grouse hunting.

Thanks buddy.  Sea salt, pepper, garlic powder and paprika.  Just had my first bite and, like I said before, I'm thankful.

I'm heading over to Ellensburg either on 9/1 or 9/2. I'm still trying to find birds outside of town though. Does anyone have suggestions? I've gone through Umptanum Rd. I need to check out Durr Rd next. Anyone have luck in the hills north of Ellensburg?

Yea, not too many Grouse in the umptanum. North side of the valley has a lot more.

Put 6 doves in the bag yesterday on the opener.  Beautiful day on the river!  Heading out again tomorrow.
