Cabelas prestige 70 liter pack
« on: September 02, 2016, 04:59:00 PM »
Hi all, have been in the market for a pack lately. Been using an old external frame for awhile that murders me and never knew it until I used my buddies pack for a trip. I was in the store today as I was returning a Eberle stock j34 that I had bought but it just didn't feel right when loaded up. I tried on this prestige pack though and it seemed to fit me very well as it just seemed to fit "right"

I couldn't find much info on the durability of these packs though and was wondering if any of you guys had some experience with them?

My recommendation would be to stick to the big names when it comes to packs. Would the Cabela's pack be serviceable? Of course...buuuuuut:

Boots, packs, and sleep systems will make or break your back country hunt.

Save a couple hundred extra bucks and go with a Kifaru, Mystery Ranch, EXO, Stone Glacier etc. You will NEVER regret it, that's a guarantee; while with a mid range pack you will end up upgrading down the road anyway...trust me, you will haha. Buy once cry once, your back will thank you.

Check out the Rokslide classifieds, you can score twice the pack for a used setup from one of the big boys for the same price of that Cabela's pack new.

Good luck!

I don't know the price of the pack but agree with ian. Look at the classifieds on a few different sites and you should be able to pick up a better pack for the money.

To save money I actually sewed a bag for a frame one year. You could buy a good frame and go that route. Or use a day pack and dry bag on the frame.
