Grouse huntin'
« on: September 04, 2016, 10:24:12 PM »
Got out this afternoon to check a few spots.  Discovered a washout along the way that prevented me from getting to one of my favorite spots.  Oh well, the dog got some exercise and it was fun getting out.  I did bring one home..

This grouse was along the edge a of logging road.  I like to get my Lab out and use him as much as possible..  I run into plenty of them just traveling the logging roads, but I'm always looking for areas where I can run my dog.  It's just more fun that way..  Gated or overgrown logging roads are good places to hunt.  This Ruff was at 4,000'

Do you often see them high in trees, or do you focus more on the areas closer to the ground?

Sweet pics.
Flyfishin, they'll stay on the ground unless something spooks them.

That is an awesome pic of your lab. That bird is a juvenile blue/sooty.

Nice to see you got out again and found some grouse.  Thanks for the skins you sent me last year.  I haven't tied any flies up with them yet as I've been either after walleye or shotgun shooting (too much).

What's the brand of your o/u?

Bill, it's a Citori Gran Lightning in 16 ga.  I've only been out after grouse once this year, but it sure seems like a down year in my areas..  Saw very few while hunting bear in August.  Still always fun to get the dog out for some exercise.

I may be looking for a 12 gauge Citori next year.  It depends on how well my shotgun is fixed this year.  It's currently doubling on me.
