New Elk hunter
« on: September 06, 2016, 08:45:39 AM »
Hi guys/gals, my brother and I are brand new to elk hunting and still pretty green to hunting in general. I've been a member on her for a little while and figured this would be the best place for info. We have Eastern WA tags for elk/ archery and I'm hoping I could I could get some advice and maybe an area for beginners lol thanks

It's a little late to start scouting but pick a unit your comfortable with or have some knowledge of and go for it. Ya got almost 2 weeks to learn an area. Find food water cover and get away from roads and listen. Any of the "300" units around Ellensburg to hwy 410 will hold animals. Read the regs and just have fun and pay attention and learn.  First few years are usually learning experiences.

Thanks! I think I have a spot. Super busy with a new job that left me no time to scout but I'm up for the adventure

One of my favorite parts of hunting is exploring new areas.
Google earth will help with couch scouting.
Then just find a parking spot and head for the hills.
Read the regs... twice...then one more time.
Good luck, and have fun

Nice and welcome to the site. Or becoming active on it.  :chuckle:
mainly what's already been said, get out there and have fun. Use this year as a learning curve then if you can scout out more for next year. There's something called Onyx app or something like that not sure the exact name but it's an app for telling you the landowners and such. Go hunt on the WDFW site could be a good help as well. WDFW site also has hunt reports by unit that tells you the harvest from last year I'd try and find that as well.
GL to you though.
"When my bow falls, so shall the world. When me heart ceases to pump blood to my body, it will all come crashing down. As a hunter, we are bound by duty, nay, bound by our very soul to this world. When a hunter dies we feel it, we sense it, and the world trembles with sorrow. When I die, so shall the world, from the shock of loosing such a great part of ones soul." Ezekiel, Okeanos Hunter
