Petermens hill out side of morton..
« on: September 08, 2016, 11:22:33 AM »
Does anyone know if that gate is open? I haven't been up there in along time and was thinking about taking a drive in some old stomping grounds and and check it out. I went last year but they had the gate closed.

I think that is part of the Weyco St. Helens Tree Farm - if so, you need a pass.  There is a WDFW wildlife area very close to there, but not part of the hill if I remember correctly.  Cowlitz Co. Assessor's Office parcel search will clear up the issue of who owns it.  No idea if the gate is open or not, but I hear it's worth the walk if you have (or need) the pass.

I was under the impression most of the Peterman Hill area was DNR  :dunno:

The top of the hill and areas to the north and west are privately owned according to WDFW Go Hunt mapping.  I'm pretty sure I checked in the past and it was owned by Weyco.  Upon checking, the Peterman Ridge Wildlife area turned out to surround the hilltop to the east and south, and farther west.  DNR does not have any ownership up there.

Weyco may leave the area open to hunters, as it is not very much land and it abuts the wildlife area on three sides.   :dunno:  I think I was looking at the top when I was considering hunting the area, so my information is/was a bit sketchy.

Whatever the case, if it was 30 minutes closer, I'd see you up there.   Good luck!

Maybe this will help.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.
