Sighting In

Hey Everyone,
I have a Tikka T3 Ultra Lite Chambered in a .300 Win Mag. Late last season I got a Leupold VX-3 4.5-14x40 with CDS. I need some serious help. Is there anyone who lives on the eastside (I live in Bothell); who wouldn't mind spending an hour or so going over the proper way to sight in and proper field usage of this system? I have sighted in only a few other rifles before; but for this combo; I would really like some help from someone who has experience with this scope. Elk season is coming up and I would really like to feel more confident. I wouldn't mind paying someone for their time; or I would be happy to take them out to lunch and beers. Please let me know if you have the time and would be willing to walk me through. Feel free to message me or reply on the board here.
Thanks much!

I assume it shoots well with ammo you currently use? They are fairly straight forward to set up. For best results you need to shoot thru chronograph to get the muzzle velocity for having the CDS dial made. Send me an IM and I would be glad to help. Jerry

If you haven't sent in for the dial yet, you likely won't get the dial prior to the October opener. I sent in for my dial on July 24th and I've been anxiously waiting for the dials to show up in the mail and nothing so far. I think they say to expect 6 - 8 week turn-around but I heard of guys on here getting them in 2 weeks and I was hoping for 4 weeks. I'm at 5 weeks now and still nothing.

That's odd there taking that long to make your dial. I sent mine in about a month ago and had it before 2 weeks. I can also help you out with your scope of needed. I have a chrono and the same scope. I live in Snoqualmie. Let me know if you need any help.

Thanks All,
I appreciate the help. Curly, that's too bad; hopefully you get it back soon!!! I know elkaholic mentioned that he had a quick turnaround time with Leupold; but it can take up to 6 weeks for some people. I would just hope to have it back mid October. I don't hunt deer until around the 20th; and then elk on Nov.5th.
I need to put some rounds through it, it sounds like; then get ballistics for the loads and then send it off. The sooner I can do this the better.
Thanks Hogslayer; I appreciate the offer. I will shoot you a PM if it looks like I need more help.
What is everyones load choice for blacktail and elk. With a .300...

I like H1000 in the .300 WM. 168 to 200 grain bullets.
My most accurate load (which I sent in for the dials was with 78.5 gr of H1000, 190 gr Berger, and WLR primers. I am only getting 2930 fps or so, but it was accurate so I stayed with that load.
I had a real accurate load worked up before with 168 gr TSX but thought I'd try the Bergers this year. Bergers turned out to be a little bit more accurate. I can't remember for sure off the top of my head now, but I think I was using 81.0 gr of H1000 and around 3200 fps with the Barnes.
(I should add, I'm not using the 190 gr Bergers on elk. If I were elk hunting, I'd probably go back the 168gr TSX load or 180 gr Nosler Accubond).
Nosler has some good reloading data these days:
