Conconully grouse
« on: September 12, 2016, 07:26:45 PM »
Anyone ever head there for grouse?  I'm thinking bout taking a drive there this week.  Ive always seen them there when deer hunting, so I know they are in there.

Opps, lol.  Maybe I should not have posted this.  I'm more just seeing if anyone will be there as I'm tired of hunting by myself and woukd be nice to meet up with some more folks.

Well, decided to wake up at 3 am today and make the 5.5 hour round trip drive over there.  It was actually a fun day.  Had my dog on her first hunt.  She wasn't able to find them as they were all in the trees, but she sure as hell tried to find them.  Saw 3 birds total and heard another fly out of a tree, just couldn't put eyes on it.  Only one shot opportunity for the three I saw and one bird down.  All the birds we did see where all on the roads.  Early afternoon hit and we put some miles in, and didn't see one bird.  They are in there, but until we get some winter weather they are all staying up high and scattered.  All singles, no groups yet.  The ones we did see were all at 5200' or more.  Saw one huge blue at the top, right on the road around a corner so never had the chance at it.  All in all, a great day.
(I don't know why pictures come out sideways)

Her first grouse.

Oh, got ya.  I'm sure there is.  I just haven't explored yet for them.  Plus, I know they are there and it's such a beautiful area up there.
