So I located a couple of bears, one being pretty good size, on the 1st week of September, I hunted them hard, but the only shot opportunity I had was on a sow with a cub. I did see one other bear, that was by itself, coming out of a little canyon, on 2 different days. both days it was after legal shooting time though.

I am going to the same area to hunt the muzzle loader deer season in October, and want to spend a couple days before trying to locate this bear again.

what are their habits like come first week of October? I was going to sit in the same spot I have seen this bear the first 2 times, but in a spot to intercept where it was coming out of a canyon, and hopefully get to it while in legal shooting light. I am just not sure if its habits will be so different come October that that wont make a good plan, first year bear hunting, so im pretty green!

thanks for any help!

What is the food source like?  Will it be there in October when you go back?  That is what I would try to figure out.

berries, and apples were close, but I think I was catching them coming from where they were living moving through to food, cause further up the hill is all sorts of snow berries.  :dunno:

All depends on the food available, weather when October hits, and where the bear dens for the winter. I'm headed back up to my spot for deer opener in October for modern. It makes it tougher that time of year, but you never know. Good luck either way, and good for you not shooting a Sow with cubs.

I've had a lot of trouble with October bears too.  Find a food source and you should find bears
