Try putting a washer, like for a 1/4" bolt, between the nipple and the breach plug when you thread them together.

Switch to #11 nipple. Problem solved.

I was told that the old nipples were black and that was the issue, not the color but the design. All the newer ones have a silver nipple. I have never had a miss fire with mine, I shoot loose T7 and German musket caps.
