No early deer season in 667. Why?
« on: September 19, 2016, 10:08:35 AM »
There is no longer an early deer season in 667. Why? It used to be in September. Now only the late season along with late elk.

Not enough deer.

Not enough deer.

That is not it. This area has the Vail tree farm. Thousands of deer. They have a month long archery season.

I know, I was being sarcastic more than anything.  I wish they would give out some second deer tags out there to thin out some of the does.  I have seen a ton up there this year that didn't even get bred.  I can't remember the last time there was an early muzzy deer season though.

Maybe so the modern firearm hunters can have a better season? Who knows? Some units are open for early muzzleloader, some are not. It is open for early archery. I'm not sure when it was open for early muzzleloader- I looked back as far as 2010 and didn't find where it was open for early muzzleloader season.

It was definitely open years ago before I started to hunt muzzy (about 5 years ago). I remember my firewood guy carrying around a gun in his truck. My question is really, Why? could something like this simply be a clerical error that no one asked about? It's not like there are tons of muzzy hunters.

I just checked the regs back to 06/07, so there hasn't been a muzzy season in at least 10 years.  Sounds like your firewood guy wasn't reading the regs.

Maybe with every other season open, WDFW thought the deer deserved a break from the pressure?

Yeah,

Muzzy is the place they need the break in pressure.  I often think maybe there needs to be some GMU rotation.  However, it would require reading the regs and confusion.
