Pyrodex P in a rifle?
« on: September 24, 2016, 04:47:58 AM »
Sorry for all the questions but im new to muzzleloading lol . My traditions buckstalker will be here monday , im shooting barnes 290 grain t-ez sabots . When I went to purchase powder my friends dad said to get pyrodex p instead of the rs . He said he will work up a good load for me to use. After reading on the internet a bit im not sure about this . Does anyone have any input on wether or not this is a good idea or not ? Thanks ! :dunno:

I have used pyrodex p in my cap lock Kentucky long rifle.  I started at 50 grains by volume then worked up till I got good group and the CRACK that a muzzle rifle is suppose to have.  The CRACK is the optimum powder for each rifle, my was at 82 grains, my neighbor rifle was 78 grains, same rifle, same bullet, round ball, same nipple hot shot and same cap.  It is best to start low and work up, for each rifle, because each rifle is different.
