Percussion cap falls off nipple??
« on: September 15, 2016, 07:04:09 PM »
I have a knight bighorn, and am using the Knight nipple.  I was at the range last week, and my caps just fell off the nipple if I wasn't really careful before each shot?  Any suggestions for a nipple that will fit my #11 percussion cap tightly.  And  I do not want to switch to musket caps I don't like them as well as my #11's.

Pinch them just a tad for a tight fit.

That is pretty normal for a Knight nipple... What I would suggest is that you order a different nipple for m Track of the Wolf. The Diameter of the nipple post is larger and once you put the cap on with a capper the nipple post it will not come off - either shoot it off or peel it of with the edge of a knife blade.  The best part this will make your nipple nearly water proof...

Made from 416 alloy (12% Chromium), the first free machining stainless alloy with Martensitic qualities (hardenable, tempers normally, and is magnetic unlike most stainless alloys). Stronger, tougher, more resistant to battering, 416 alloy is longer lasting than the famous old Ampco bronze nipples, now obsolete.

Truly precision turned, our nipples have tapered cones made to perfectly fit the CCI brand No. 11 standard cap, or the identical Dynamit - Nobel RWS brand No. 1075 (red label) cap. Remington No. 11 caps are a tiny bit larger, an easy fit. Track has improved the fit, and extended the life of our percussion nipples.

This is the one you are after...

Sabot, thanks for that info.  I had number 11's fall off my gun twice last year while trying to get a second shot on my ram, of course my nipple points down which didn't help.

Everybody just keep in mind these nipples do not work that well with any DISC series... but, the factory Thompson Center #11 nipple will and does hold the cap a little tighter than the Knight factory nipple... Then again with the DISC the face of the bolt will not allow it to fall off completely like the Bighorn can and will do.

Thanks Sabotloader,  I will order a couple of those tonight!  I have a marlin MLS50 and I do not have that problem with that nipple, But I want to hunt with the bighorn for elk, and do not need to cap falling off without me knowing it!!  Thanks again!

I cannot stress enough get the right nipple, the nipple should be so tight you have to pry it off. I learned this the hard way misfiring on two bulls last season. New nipple and haven't had a problem since

Follow up to the advice that Sabotloader gave on TOW nipples.  I bought 2 and finally got to the range today after work  Yes if you use the CCI , or the Dynamite Noble caps you definitely have to shoot them off or pry them off with some sort of tool,  I like the Remington caps, they fit tight just not as tight as the other two.  Thanks again Sabatloader, and if anyone else has the same issue I can say that these nipples do work.  Good luck this next week!

i've had nothing but good luck with the one that came on my knight.  usually have to get a knife to pry the cap off at the end of the day(i use CCI #11 magnum caps).

my dad doesn't have the same luck with his CVA.  the nipple on his gun was mushroomed out pretty bad (he probably dry fired it) and would take 2 or 3 shots to finally go off, so i replaced it with one of the common traditions nipples.  they don't seem to hold a #11 cap worth a damn.  my solution was to pick him up some #10 caps to try.  they are a nice tight fit and he hasn't had any issues with them falling off.  just another option if you're in a pinch.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun
