Whatever you decide on, get a short barreled version with choke tubes.....21 / 22 inch barrel.....12 or 20 gauge as both will work

if i were buying a semi-auto 12 gauge for turkeys i think i'd buy a benelli super black eagle.
if i were buying a pump gun, i think i'd buy a rem. 870, i really like the tactical turkey models, just haven't shot one with the axiom stock and not sure i'd like it.

I agree, The benelli super eagle is a sweet gun and lightwieght...pretty pricey over $1000.00 (I think) but worth the investment if you got the $.  The pump version the NOVA I believe has a noisy forearm.. :twocents:

MY WIFE SHOTS THE NOVA FOR TURKEY AND IT DOSE A GOOD JOB. YOU PUT A 3 AND A HALF IN AND A TURKEY CHOKE, YOU HAVE SOME RANGE AND IT ALSO KEEPS A GOOD PATTERN. SHE DOSEN'T SHOT THE 3.5 BUT I DO. FOR THE MONEY YOU CAN'T BEAT IT

Model 835 can run anywhere from $350 -550
Model 935 auto can run $550-750
Model 500 several variations have choke models $300 -450

You can find deals if you look around..I like the 835/ 935 they contain 10 gauge barrels overbored to 12 gauge..tough and durable.

Hooked on Toys or High Mountain may have them..

Always wanted a "TURKEY" only shotgun but never have made it happen.  Ive looked into it, The benelli M1 offers a pistol grip attachment.  I think if I bought a Benelli, it would be the M1 rather than the SBE.  Yelp has the old squeeky wheels turning in my head with the mossberg talk.

Yelp, is the pistol grip as awesome as Ive always dreamed it would be?  When sitting for hours on end on various trees Ive often dreamed about a pistol grip stock.  It seems so stable when sitting on your ass balancing the gun on your knee.

I have two 835's I like both. One has the 24" barrel and is all camo the other has the 28" barrel. One for turkeys the other for geese.

If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

Hornhunter...Don't own one of the pistol grip models those are relatively new.  The upper pic is of the Tactical turkey model 835 pump.  The bottom pic is of the new 935 pistol grip that just came out this year.  I hope to own one some day...and I thought of the same thing great balance while sitting...I am going to order one and retro it to one of my older 835's and try it out...

SWEET!  The M1 is my dream set up. Those Mossbergs are the right price for a gun you use for only 6 weeks a year.

I have the Benelli SBE II. After carrying a mossberg pump and a nova, I had to switch away from the rattley pump. It drove me nuts. My experience with Remington Semi-Auto's is not good...they won't kick out low base, which isn't a problem if you are using it only for turkeys, but to spend that kind of money and put two or three hunting shots through it a year??? If you have the money, I'd go for the SBE II. Super lightweight, doesn't kick like a mule, kicks out low base...perfect.

Here is my current turkey gun.  I have several 870's and the most I have ever paid for any of them is 349.
The 2 that I have for turkey I paid 40.00 for the first one about 4 years ago, and the last one 20.00 last year.

Yep you cant beat raffle guns !  :chuckle:
This is the 870 SPS-T camo Thumbhole, and I love it.  Rem says it retails for 740.00 but if you search you should be able to find it for somewhere around 400.

NWTFhunter ..Your right raffle guns are always nice..I have won 5 shotguns by going to NWTF banquets.  Of course if I add up the money I have totally spent at these banquets...I probably could have bought them and 10 more...LOL.  It is all woorth it I had fun.  Those guns of the year are hard to take hunting however...

FishHunt is right those forearms on the pump guns mossberg and nova are noisy...and when that gobbler is coming in and your shaking like a leaf that tickticktick is hard to keep quiet....LOL...Those damn birds are getting me all jiggy!   :chuckle:

Nice gun.....They make one that looks identical only an Express....it that what yours is?  Difference between Express and SPS-T if they are different....Thanks
I shoot a Winchester Model 1300 Turkey with the laminated stock, 21 inch barrel, NWTF model they first came out with years ago.  Put a Kick's turkey choke on it several years back (mid 90's) and it is a death machine.  Might pick up one of those Remington's though at that price for an extra turkey gun .  Can't have enough guns you know..... :chuckle:

If you're talking a gun strickly for turkeys go w/ a 12 guage.  I'd probably opt for a pump just for weight reduction and cost reduction.  Short barrel is really nice too.  870, Nova, 835 are all decent choices.

20 guage is viable.  In general you're gonna limit your range to about 35 yards but that'll cover 85% or > of your shots.

NWTF....never mind...I found out the difference.  Most noticable is the special sights and also the sling.  Other than that I think they are similar.

I have a Mossberg 935 semi in 12 GA with two barrels (24 inch barrel for Turkey and 28 inch for Ducks and Geese).  I bought it new and it started jamming the first  year duck hunting, it would fire one round and then misfeed. I sent it back to the factory, and have not had any issues for 3 years now.  The 935 shoots 3.5 inch turkey loads that are a bear to pattern the gun with, but they do a number on gobblers heads up to +50 yards.

I also bought a Nova 20 gauge last year for a youth gun and backup and it is a delight to shoot 3 in. turkey loads.

Phantom Gobbler I have the same gun...Never had any problems with it. I use the factory X-factor ported choke Mossberg provided.  I found 3.5 " 5's in the Winchester supreme shot the best.  But every gun is a littler different.  I do love the gun it is a little heavy to hold.  I put a lazy leg on mine and it steady her right up, I love it.  I also put a triv-viz hi-viz sight and it brings your eye right on target...

Yelp, Thanks for the tips on how your gun is setup.  :)   I did buy my 935 the first year they were made so that could have been a factor.  And yes, they are a little heavy, but I have had very good luck with mine as well.

I sold my 835 to one of my hunting partners and it has been a good reliable turkey gun.

I shoot a Browning BPS and I love it. The thing patterns like a monster. This year I'm going to take my CZ SxS out for a hunt or two and see if I can bag one with it then I'll take the BPS back out and try to get #2 with it.

If I ever buy a dedicated turkey gun this will be the one. NWTF GOLD Ultimate Turkey,

Or this one. Browning Silver Turkey

:)I have an 870 SPS-t with the standard stock, I am not a fan of pistol grips or thumbholes, 23 inch barrel camo 3.5 inch. great gun. I have killed more turkeys with my 11-87 for some reason??? its a 3 inch, I also use a lot of 2.75 loads for turkey, great velocity and they pattern very well.
I have an extra 11-87 all matte black like new, I'll sell for $425.00
