IV got a few good spots with good beaver activity buy I'm struggling to find the den sight. One pond its very obviose where the den is they capped it with sticks, found the breather hole to. But no runs anywhere. Other ponds have tons of runs but can't find the den anywhere. Any tips to finding a den sight?

Hmmm maybe try just setting traps on a bank...kirk dekalb catches quite a few beavers just on the edge of a pond with a single door trap

swim thru right in front of the breather hole? Or try a cage in the runs at the one spot and a bank set with castor mound on top of cage like predator pro mentioned at ur other spot?  :dunno: Good luck

I would concentrate on using swim-throughs in the underwater runs and try to locate where they are feeding. Look for freshly peeled sticks and trails leading out of the water.

I never look for the house. All that stomping around can scare them off. Just look for good channels, dams and general beaver activity. You don't have to be right on top of them. They move around more then a lot of people think. Decent set any where even semi close and that will be good.
More then once when I was younger I would poke around before season too much and end up finding the beaver moved out when I set.

I was trapping in a big pond last season. I poked around the den and scared them. They never touch my trap. So I move it to the shore where I found a castor mound. So I made one right next to it and set my traps. There was two ways in so I placed 2 swim throughs. Caught one by the castor mound. and place a Bailey in a three way channel to. Landed a monster there to but also missed one. I didn't set the bailey right. The trigger went off but the cables were pinched between the fencing. My bad lol  I also place swim throughs in most of the channels to and from den area. I also place some in the channel 100 yards plus on the othef side of the dike. After messing up the first time and a month of nothing except 1 muskrat. I ended up catching 4 nice beavers in a week there and missing a few more. I will hit it hard in later this winter there. Good luck everone
