lincon county bull
« on: November 06, 2016, 08:10:56 AM »
We have had elk on the farm the past few years but they always seem to move on before the season opens. Thursday evening I am out looking for deer in our fields when I saw what appeared to be a cow out in one of our north fields but it was almost the end of shooting light. I decide to try and hunt that field in the morning. The next morning its completely fogged in so no hunting for me. That evening its clear so its game on. Unfortunately with 15 minutes left no elk so I started to head out of the north field. I got almost out of the field when I looked across into our south fields, I saw what appeared to be a single elk in the field. I hurried across and through the timber to the edge of the field. I was able to move across the field to within 400yds. I got setup on my sticks and waited for a shot. It eventually moved and picked its head where I could see its was a bull. In Lincoln county its any elk so it being a bull was a bonus, I was just hoping for a cow. After 4 shots and 2 hits I had a dead elk and my first bull on the ground. It made it even more special that it was taken off the farm. I am lucky enough to have a farm to hunt that has just about everything we can hunt in the state. I have killed bears, grouse, geese, ducks, elk, mule deer, whitetail deer, pheasants, blue grouse, quail, coyotes, cougars, partridge, and turkey off the farm.

Great work! It's always nice to get it done on the family farm. Hopefully they stick around and begin to hang out in the area more consistently over the following years for you.

unfortunately its not the family farm just a farm I have hunted for over 25yrs. The farm is part of our leases that we allow hunting on and we guide on.
