The classic elk rifle

I went out for a bit today and decided to go old school with the rifle. I typically run my 375 Ruger but today I brought out what I envision as the classic elk rifle.


It's a 35 Whelan built off of a Sprinfield action. It did have a classic Weaver K-4 scope on there, but I opted to run the iron sights. Very cool gun that I kind of acquired by chance. Didn't see any bulls, but I did get a nice grouse with it! Shoots well enough to take the head off of this grouse at about 30 yards. I think the 225gr Sierra was a little excessive, but it worked.


Anybody else hunting with a "classic" this year?

I used the 375 Ruger Guide Gun using 300gr. Accubonds do to the wet weather. If it qwit raining I would of brought back out the Remington 721 300 H&H shooting 200gr. Partitions.

So, where are the pics?  I'd love to have a 300 H&H! I had a 375 H&H for a while, but the 300 is way cooler.

30 caliber without question, most likely 30-06.
