Late Whitetail Hunt GMU #100's Advice
« on: November 09, 2016, 12:01:37 PM »
Looking at going in the Colville area this weekend for the late whitetail hunt. I'm a college student and don't have a lot of money to blow on a driving all over.  I could leave Friday and hunt the weekend. Is it worth going over there or is it a pumpkin patch of hunters? Any recommendations help just trying to fill a freezer. Not asking for your honey hole or looking to shoot a nice buck, anything with horns.

Plenty of places to hunt. There will be hunters out and about but that's not a bad thing. Get off the road a bit, find some game trails and post up. Rut hasn't really started yet but should start the early parts of it any day

What Adam (Vandeman17) said. There are deer all over that country. The rut is kicking in. When I killed my buck Thursday, he wasn't too rutty (glands weren't too ripe) and bucks were following yet. Rubs were just getting started and all the fun things that come with the rut. If you got out, how'd it go? I'd always try to wait until around the 15th or later if you can only get out once; better odds of bucks being dumb and out in the daylight chasing tail
Wishing I was fishing...or in Wyoming

Get out of the truck and still hunt the timber.

The whitetails in 121 aren't showing much rutting behavior yet but hopefully some action will start to kick in for the final few days of the season.  The season closes the 19th so maybe you make a run over for the last day. Good luck!

This weekend in 117 I found fresh scrapes all over. Been seeing rubs since October saw a young buck chasing a doe yesterday. I'll bet Thursday and Friday will be a great day to be in the woods

My son and I shot bucks mid morning on Saturday in 117. They were cruising up through a clear cut about a 1/2 hour apart. There were a couple does right there so it is starting. I'd find a good spot and be patient.

The rut is starting. Didn't get the chance to shoot a pretty big buck yesterday morning chasing does so I settled for a smaller buck.
