Looking for puppy question
«
on:
November 28, 2016, 07:13:27 PM »
So I am looking into a family dog that I could use for occasional bird hunting and shed hunting but more importantly a family dog (have a 3 year old) After a lot of reading we have really liked the idea of a Brittany spaniel. For their easy going personality, hair Shedding, look, and training ability ( one of the few breeds we agree on). Seems kinda hard to find them and if you can get on a list they seem pretty spendy. I will never be able to spend 1000 on a puppy even if I wanted to. Am I wasting my time looking? Any other breeders around with recommendation?

@JODakota Didn't you get your Brittany here in Wa?
You absolutely cannot beat a lab for an all around dog

We had a Brittany, loving dog but a handful to say the least. We have a Lab now and he is such a better all around dog. If your looking for a combo shed/bird/family dog I think a yellow lab is what your looking for.

I wouldn't mind a lab but the wife is not warmed up to the lab idea yet (she thinks they shed too much).

JJB I saw that add. Little out of my price range. 1000 just seems so much to me but I see it often, maybe that's just what they cost now...

Had a brit for going on 12 years now she's been the best family dog we could have hoped for. Soft, quiet and smart as a whip. When our time is done together in time we will get another.

My Chocolate Girl is from Ireland Farms (2 y/o). I will admit it took some talking to get my wife to spend the $...(It seemed like a lot to me too, even though my researched showed it was average). You could show up at my house tonight with $100K in a suitcase and my wife would tell you to take a walk before she would ever give up that dog. I have two very "active kids" who were 5 and 11 when we brought her home. They put her through the paces to say the least. That dog is every bit a part of our family. We don't travel unless she is welcome where we are staying. "Off" switch in the house, great in the field. Whatever you decide, enjoy the whole experience...life without a dog is a life that is missing something VERY special.

I have a pudelpointer, she is the easiest puppy I have ever had. Doesn't hardly shed cause they have hair not fur and are hypoallergenic. Very social and loves to be around people.

We love our Brittany ( 5yrs old). Got ours in Pullman but can't remember the ranches name. Great hunting dog and let's the kids pull ears, dress up, wrestle, you name it he's good to go. Then he'll go all day finding and pointing birds when it's time. He is liver color.

This is a great resource for finding breeders & puppies. Many have searchable pedigrees.
