water methodology
« on: January 23, 2017, 08:46:54 AM »
Looking through the back country camps thread, I see an awful lot of tents on the tops of ridges that seemingly are nowhere near a water source. So what are you guys doing? Are you carrying multiple gallons of water up with you for a few days or making multiple up and down trips? If so, how much water are you going through on a daily basis? I find I use about a gallon a day between drinking and cooking. If I was to spend 4 days on a ridge top, that's a lot of excess weight to haul uphill...

Just curious how others are doing it!

Thanks!

Filter with about 7 liters of capacity.

Usually leave the 4 at camp and pack the 3 while I hunt, topping it off as needed.

How much water I use is a direct relation to my activity, and how many naps I take.

I take a few empty 1 gallon bottles with me.  After camp is set up or when I hit the last water source, I fill them up.

Depends on the area.

Usually in the the northwest ur never too far from water. Ill carry a 10L MSR water bladder with me to fill up and leave at camp.

Also take a 36oz and 48oz nalgene with me. Keep those on me while were hunting and fill them up if we come across water and try to save the water in my camp bladder.

Water is pretty precious when its more than a half mile from camp or if youve gotta drop a bunch of elevation to get to it
