Influential Friend, Teacher Killed Yesterday
« on: March 18, 2017, 10:24:10 AM »
You may have heard it on the news yesterday that a pedestrian was killed yesterday in Silverdale, WA while out for a run early in the morning. She was a huge part of our community and a co-worker and good friend of my wife. In addition, she was YoungFowler',s (my oldest son), 2nd grade teacher. Her name was Amy Higgins.

  http://www.kitsapgov.com/sheriff/mediareleases/2017/03-17%20CK%20vehicle-pedestrian%20fatalilty.pdf

She and her husband have 2 boys, one in college and one a senior in High School who's an incredible baseball player. My son plays on the HS baseball team with the him.

My wife and I, with two sons of our own, feel a great loss for both Amy and for the husband and boys left behind. Amy went everywhere to watch her sons play ball, was a highly decorated runner who won races and a dedicated teacher. The community is in reeling in shock and sadness

In addition, my heart goes out to the 24 year old who hit her. What a horrendous thing to have to live through.

Please pray for this family, for Silverdale, and for all the little children at the local school who will come to school on Monday wondering where Mrs. Higgins is?

Amy's service will be held this Thursday at 6:30 PM at GracePoint Church in Bremerton, WA.

All are welcome to celebrate her beautiful life as she touched many different people in her time.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to:

Tragic loss, good teachers often have a way of impacting many people in their communities.

Is this funding request coming directly from the family as a way to honor Amy?  If so, could you please link to their statement?

No, it's not. The family hasn't listed any options yet. Just looking for a way to impact her son. You can choose his fundraising page when going to the link. Just look for the Higgins name. Thank you.

My wife is also sending flowers to the family on behalf of the baseball team. The team has made cards for Amy's son.

Wish I'd asked that question.

This hit me pretty hard too. I grew up in Silverdale, I've been fortunate enough to know the Higgins's family most of my life.
They're in my thoughts and prayers. It still feels surreal at this point...
