coyotes running uphill?

in summer of 08 i smacked ayote from a little under 100 yards. its back half dropped to the ground stood back up and bolted uphill. to sage brush and we lost it there. has any one ever heard of an animal running uphill after being hit. there was a puddle of blood where he was when i hit him and a small trail up hill but nothing after that. this hill was damn steep too. wasnt just a rolling knoll. any clue ?

Why wouldnt they run uphill? They go to the nearest escape no matter where it is.

ive always been told that wounded animals go down hill with the path of least resistance.

normally the only time I have seen an animal not go up hill if it was the fastest escape route is if they were hit in the back legs, what your describing sounds like that yote may have been hit in the guts, I've seen them run a long ways with their guts hanging out, pretty tough animals.
