348 Winchester ammo
« on: March 28, 2017, 07:59:09 PM »
Well now with a Spring Bear Tag in hand.
I been thinking a lot about the hunt coming up.

My go to gun in my 30.06 pump with Leo . 3x9.

But in the event I have a wounded bear. I was thinking of pulling my model 71 in 348 with 200 grain silver tips out of the safe for what could be close in work.

Anyone know. of a store that carrys 348 ammo.

I can order it but would just like to walk in and buy a box. Long shot I know.

Did you check Skagit Arms new store? Lots of ammo in it.

You don't want to use a 348 on bear.  You need to sell me that 71 for cheap and use your 30-06.

I don't know if it will help ghost but if you have gun broker there is a few boxes kicking around on there. They are about 75 a box.

348 is too small. Need to sell it and get something in the 400 range.  :chuckle:

Yeah I bought a box from KESSELRINGS years ago. It was special run.
They told me the factory ran it once a year.

I will check Skagit Arms. Just sitting here thinking about it.

Think I have a half box.

Yeah I know model 71 is a collectors gun now. Got it from my 96 year old father in law. He used it for elk.

I shot a box through it and put it away. It is a beast. But might be great for close in cranky bear work.

.348 model 71  is an awesome gun for anything up to 200 yards.  Killed my first buck at age 11 60 years ago.  Took many bull elk when I first started hunting them at age 17.  No better brush gun for heavy game.

Forget the price, if you find some in a store buy several boxes. Winchester only runs it once a year and unless you already have enough brass to reload you can never find a box when you need it.

Yeah

Price isn't a factor. Not like I shoot it all the time. Just like to have a box or two in the cabinet.

Some options for you.  Old Western Scrounger usually has hard to find stuff.    http://www.ows-ammo.com/store/index.php?main_page=advanced_search_result&search_in_description=1&zenid=ce94f93fd1e28ddabb255652421ef9c8&keyword=348

Thanks for the info.

Got a box coming.

Checked my supply and had a full box of Silver Tips.

Several places told me to check back in months.

I have a box of Brass too.
