Foxpro FX3 or FX5
« on: February 21, 2009, 11:30:28 AM »
What are the pros anc cons over the FX5 compared to the FX3.  I have read up on them on Foxprocalls.com and to me it seems like the amount of memory is the big thing.  And the FX5 you can get the fancy remote.  To you expert predator hunters out there, Is the FX3 all a guy really needs?

FX3 is a very adequate call. I think with the FX5 and the Fury what you're mostly adding is bells and whistles and memory. I think the FX3 sound quality is so similar that the difference is nominal. The 5 and Fury are supposed to be better, but I don't know. And like above, the number of sounds past about 15 is really just bragging rights!

I usually put it 30 yards away but last time i was out i put it 70 or so. If you have clear line of site it'll hit 100 or maybe more.

I have a 3, and it is certainly adequate and then some. The remote range is like Gutpile said good to about 100yds., but you have to have a clear line of sight. The remote is what does it for me on the 5, and the Fury takes it to a whole different level. Depends on your motivation. The number of sounds is irrelevant. The 32 that you get with the 3 is PLENTY. The thing is the remote. I hate the remote on the 3. The remote on the 5 might be worth the extra $$. The Fury's remote is WAY BETTER than the 3, but even more dough. None of them are cheap. The ? is, do you wanna spend the dough. To me, the relevant difference is only in the remote. I wish I had a Fury, but since I have a 3, I won't be ponying up another 6 bills+. If I were at square 1??? Probably would get at least the 5 personally.

Awesome feedback guys, Im gonna try and buy the 3 tonight at Sportsmans if they have one.  I dont think I can justify the extra dough for the upgraded remote, as long as the sound is the same I will stick with the 3.  Thanks everyone!

Just charge it the night before a hunt and it'll go all day. I do 7-12 sets a day (20-45 minutes each) and have never lost power except one time I forgot to charge it the night before.

I'd almost recomend ordering straight from Foxpro. that way you can customize your sounds. Otherwise you'll have a bunch of sounds you'll never use for predator hunting. I don't remember all of them but Goose, moose, elk, deer rattling, stuff like that.

One downside is that you have to buy sounds to add on unless you have it programmed at the factory.

That said, it's easy to do but may as well save the money. Depends on how big a hurry your in. I don't remember how much the sounds cost, seems like $20.00 for a 20-30 pack or so. I could be wrong.  :IBCOOL:

Hello Bearhunter,
I see we live close to each other.

I got my FX 3 from Sportsmens last year, it has been working just fine for me. I haven't used it very much, but have called 3 yotes in with it last fall. I was using the "cotton candy" and "pup in distress".

If you my need help with the caller or have questions, just drop me a PM here and  we can hook up on the phone or eye to eye.
Larry

anyone have any experience with the scorpion?

I have one and have killed a few yotes with it. I like it but wish it were louder. Had a few issues with the remote but FP fixed them for the most part. It is light and easy to add sounds to.

I bought the FX3 tonight through a buddy at Sprotsmans, got a pretty good deal!!  Anyways, got the coyotes howling tonight in the backyard with it, it is a hell of a lot louder than the phantom predator call I have, cant wait to get out and give it a try.  Now Ive got to loud up some new sounds.  Anybody got a list of the best sounds for Coyotes and Bobcats that foxpro or allpredator offers?

The goat sounds are good. Don't even think about the Blacktail Distress. They suck.

Make sure you have DSG, Luckybird, Whitetail Doe Fawn Distress, Kid Goat Cries, Northern Flicker, Coyote Pup Distress.

You can listen to the sounds at Foxpro.
