Eastern WA Solo Hunt Part 2
« on: April 22, 2017, 12:32:30 PM »
Went out this morning to fill tag #2. Went to the same spot as before, and had some more good luck. Hiked all the way down a pretty substantial ridge, only to find the gobbler that was making racket all morning, was on the other side of the river.  Again.  I spooked a couple hens on the way down, so at least I saw some birds. I made the terrible hike back up to the top after realizing that I should have just stayed there in the first place. After hoofing it around for a little while, I found a nice spot that looked turkey-ey. Threw down the decoys, ate a granola bar and relaxed for a few. After a while I started clucking, and got some gobbles as a response. The tom and I went back an fourth for a little while, but he seemed to hang up about 100 yards out. Then he went quiet. After a few minutes, I decided to go get him. I spotted him about where I figured he would be. I crouched out of his line of sight, and crept on him to 20 yards and let the Benelli eat. Ended up with a smaller bird than before, but he will eat. 16lbs, 6 inch beard, only one spur that is 1/2 inch.

Dang you make it look easy! Nice job, reading your post just reminds me how much I wish I wasn't stuck at work and was out chasing red heads in the sun.
