Idaho elk
« on: May 26, 2017, 02:14:10 PM »
Hi everyone.  I have been able to get into Idaho's system as a Non Resident Disabled Vet, but need some advice on the next step for getting an elk and deer tag.  Is it as easy as picking out a unit and buying the tags?  Also, I still have a little mobility, but from what I here I should stay away from the panhandle.  I'm not sure yet if I'll be going with archery or rifle, that depends on who I can talk into going with me.  Any advice will be appreciated,  and thanks in advace.

Respectfully,
Tim

Some OTC tags are already sold out as they go buy zone (usually 3-4 units in a zone) and have quotas that are first come first serve. If you are looking at an area where the tags aren't sold out and not in risk of it for a while, then yeas it's just a matter of walking up to the counter with your hunting license and buying a tag.

If you choose archery, you may be required to complete a state recognized archery course...I don't remember all the details or exceptions but something to look into.

Thanks for the info. My Wa archery license should do the trick from what another hunter told me.  I'll call to find out for sure.

That's correct, when I moved here I signed an affidavit saying I had held a archery specific license in another state and that's all they wanted.

Look into the dworshak zone most of the unit owned by timber company so all the roads and trails are open to atv's
