We used to stock pile the female pinks for smoking and dog food up North. I'd start feeding our lab, Shuksan, pinks around the middle of August and not stop until water fowl season was done. Her coat was so oily it was incredible. We'd just throw a couple in the oven, bone them when cool, then add to her dog food all week.
My dogs here have found out that fishing season is a plus for them as soon as the smoker starts up. Scraps mean goodies to them. They both become setters and pointers.
