Looking for a training partner
« on: August 01, 2017, 10:51:08 PM »
Howdy folks - I recently moved to Seattle and I'm looking for a dog training partner.

I'm a novice, but a very keen one.  I do my own training not because of cost, or because I think I'm better than a pro, but because I just like to do things myself.

I have a 4 yo GWP that I'm working on steadiness with.  And I'll be getting a new pudelpointer pup in August... besides running on wild birds as much as possible this year, I don't plan on doing a lot of formal training with the pup until the spring.

I do a lot of waterfowling & wild chukar hunting, and so my training is with that in mind.  I'm generally following the perfect start/perfect finish method for upland work.  For waterfowl, my method is inspired by the 'Wildrose Way' and the Robert Milner book.

I've read about the PNW NAVHDA chapter, but looking from their website they only have a few training days a year. I'll probably end up joining, and going to those, but I'm looking for someone who lives in my area and is interested in training on a more regular basis.

So anyway - if you're in the Seattle area and are looking for a training partner, let me know!

I'm at JBLM. If you'd be interested in making the drive about 10 miles south of Olympia there's some nice grounds in Rochester, WA. Scatter Creek. I have a 16 month pointer and try to make it out a couple times week.

Sorry our website sucks (PNW navhda)but we have training groups both for north end folks and south end folks. The next training get together for north and south end groups will be the 13th. We primarily train for the Navhda tests but I also train for retriever tests as well as waterfowl hunting setups. You are more than welcome to join us. I have 2 PPs myself. Where are you getting yours from?

Whistling Wings HRC could be a resource as well as Cascade HRC for retriever stuff. Both have training days in sept. WWHRC also has a hunt test this month in Duvall.

Great - thanks guys.  Looks like I should have just went ahead & joined the NAVHDA chapter from the get go.  CT - I'll send you a PM as well.  And I'll take a look at the retriever clubs.

I'm getting my PP from cedarwoods.
