Shrinkage during drying
« on: August 19, 2017, 04:47:22 PM »
I guess this question is kind of targeted at those who are official scorers but open to anyone.  All "official" scores have to wait a drying period, so what is the expected shrinkage during that period? At the scorers booth last year the gentleman said it could be as much as 3-4%, that seemed really high to me.  Any thoughts from others?

That might be a little high, but they definitely shrink.

depends on the species also.  I think antelope shrink more than deer.

My main question is about elk but I'm curious about any and all species.  In my family we have only had one animal scored (elk) and it was 1% less than I measured.  That said I'm not a scorer and my margin of error is greater than 1% so it got me thinking.

I had a 400" bull shrink down to 300" one time. Maybe I stretched the tape a little tight though on my initial scoring.
