Late season whitetail ideas for kid
« on: August 28, 2017, 01:26:57 PM »
Ok, I usually don't ask for info BUT it's for a 16 year old girl. I have a good friend who has taken his daughter out onto the Olympic mountains for the late blackmail hunt. After 3 years she has not taken a deer. She said if she doesn't kill a buck she will stop hunting. So I am reaching out for ideas in the Spokane area deer park. Where is a good starting point I can look at to help her get her first deer. Buck. I bow hunt so my season and areas I have no idea how it is during rifle season. I have heard Spokane area could be a good area for the late season where she could get her first buck. Any ideas appreciated

Thank you jstone

does she need to kill a buck? if not I would take advantage of the youth any deer seasons around spokane and and north of that. That's what I did with my son and it was a lot of fun but the buck to doe ratio was really lopsided where we were hunting  meaning lots of does! If you could find a small piece of private and bait with some cob in the late season I bet she would get a buck easy. I thought about that but we never really pursued it but he did get a couple deer on just 20 acres we got permission too. Seemed like there were a lot of deer on the iep land but the private we found was easy. He was able to get his first deer at 8 years old over there. We hunted the late whitetail season on public and seen quite a few bucks also. I would go for any deer just to get her some success

question she is 16 is she still considered a youth? and yes all she wants to shoot is a buck?? I told them she just needs to get a kill under her belt so shoot a doe but she said she wanted a buck only

I would look at IEP land. Plenty of ground to cover and plenty of deer. They do require a permit which is $10 or so a day per person.
