I had the same question. I'm hoping this supposed rain comes and puts the fires out.

I dont think you can go anywhere on the east side of the state that is socked in with smoke. Just made the drive from Wenatchee to the se corner and it was essentially the same thickness the whole way

You can't hardly go anywhere in the state and be smoke free right now, east or west side.

No rain in the forecast in Cle Elum for 10 days aside from a 30% chance today.

Thanks everyone.  Have any of you guys hunted in this type of smoke? Do the animals act the same?

I have in California and the animals were still there.  I actually think I saw more daytime activity because the smoke was blocking out the sun (kind of like a cloudy overcast day).   I also got extremely close to quite a few deer in the heavy smoke.   I did however have a headache and difficulty breathing the whole weekend...

I don't want to sound like a wimp, but with the lack of visibility, the crummy breathing and eyes watering from the smoke, I'd probably sit it out. Probably depends on your preferred method of hunting.

I'm going to be there chasing spikes and cows. I am hoping the smoke will thin out with the weather change. Gluten for punishment.

If you can stand it, go. I am, smoke will be a natural visual and scent cover.

We only get a week or two a year. Can't wait to get back to the elk woods.

I have (had) a Teanaway cow tag.  Was in there just before the closure of the entire unit.  The smoke was not an asset to the hunting.  I was doing both mountain biking and hiking and it definitely had an affect on my lungs.  I am pretty sure it affected the elk too.  The smoke was really thick.

Anybody else have a Teanaway cow tag?  anybody fill theirs?  I hunted as hard as I could in the limited public areas still open and got only into bear and deer.  No elk sign whatsoever (no poop and no bugling)  Plenty of elk on the south side of the unit, but, probably not a good idea to hunt on a golf course.  :chuckle:
Introduce someone new to hunting this year.

I am seeing alot more activity during the day than normal especially with how hot it is. I saw 4 legal bucks out feeding around 2:30. One was tempting to go after but i know of bigger ones so let him enjoy his day
