Coyote tracks?
« on: September 15, 2017, 09:30:52 PM »
Out bow hunting and ran across these headed to camp. After walking my dog today and noticing how small his tracks were I began to wonder if they were indeed coyote? Or something larger?

Wolf tracks would be close to the size of your whole hand, around 4 inches long or so depending on age. It's usually pretty obvious when they're wolf tracks.

Its a smaller lion track, no claw marks. Plus the lions back pad will have a very pronounced M shape like yours has.

Here is a pic, rear is a yote and front is a smaller lion.

Note how the wolf tracks dan posted and the yote track I posted, will have a rear pad that's more triangle shaped. Plus you see the claws in the k9's. Cats have there nails bulled back when they walk. Plus you can see in your pic and the cat track I posted the M shape the back pad has.

never mind all cats have this pad shape.
There will never be a solid fact answer to the dog coyote and wolf track debate.Too many large, medium, small dogs out there. No way to tell difference from a large dog and a wolf track.  :twocents:
Or a medium dog and a coyote.  :twocents:
