Thanks y'all. It was a great hunt. And I couldn't have done it without the help of people on this site!

Everyone says not to bring your rifle out with you on opening day...... Everyone is right! I got my buck around 8:30, my buddy around 11. At first it seemed like it would be a hard hunt and harder to find a nice buck. Because the day before opening we scouted slot of land from the truck, and really were not impressed. We saw a few, but all small.
Opening morning we hiked up to the tallest landmark next to our camp and decided to get the tripods out and spend some time behind our glass. It wasn't long before we had spotted over a hundred goats. They seemed to be everywhere, like magic. Nothing one day, and hundreds the next. It was crazy. Eventually I found a good buck I wanted to try a stalk on. I'd never done it before, so I figured it would be good practice for the one that counts.
2.7 miles later on the GPS I finally get to the little hill "bump" that is bidding me from him. I strip my pack off, unfold my bi pod and start crawling through the cactus. As I get to the ridge I can see my herd is around 500 yards from me and have no idea I'm there. I'm now searching for my buck when suddenly I hear, what sounds like a ground hog or Marmot to my right, and it won't shut up. So I look over and a buck and 3 doe are staring right at me. To my amazement, the buck is slowly walking towards me, stomping and chirping at me. I swing my gun over to look at him, as I'm already in the prone position. From what I could see he wasn't tall. But I couldn't see his cutters as he looked at me. After a few minutes he decided to turn his head and reveal his true beauty. A quick shot with the range finder to 367 yards, and then the awesome sound of the bullet hitting its mark. He folded up like a lawn chair as soon as the SST penetrated.
The walk up was very confusing. I thought about ground shrinkage, people telling me not to shoot the first day, now I only have doe tags, and most importantly....... Is my buddy going to get a bigger one. :chuckle: .
Luckily my buddy heard the shot and connection of the bullet and started on his way with the game cart. Game carts are amazing!!! When he got there I had already gutted him and dragged for a few hundred yards. Boy was I glad to see him. We high fives and admired for a bit and got on our way. The taxidermist scored him at 75 1/8 after deductions.

Part 2 to come. My wife and kid are yelling at me, gotta go....

It's by far the cheapest out of state hunt you can do.  Heck, for the cost of my WA license and all of the draws, I can buy at least the buck tag if not an extra doe or two as well.

I landed up dropping him off at your buddy Jake  Sornsen.... I hope I'm spelling that right. He had nothing but amazing things to say about you and your people. Sounds like your land in SE Idaho borders mine.
