Small mustlanders?
« on: September 24, 2017, 08:18:50 PM »
Any one have any experience with these dogs? I ran across these dogs the other day on another forum. Looks like they dog waterfowl and upland game. I'm looking at getting another dog in a few years so I'm always looking and am intrigued with this dog. How are they hunting ducks and upland birds? It would be a family dog first and hunter second.

I've never seen one and couldn't pick one out of a line up but with the lesser used breeds your likely to find a lot saying they are field bred but very few that actually are and fewer still with performance titles to back it up. Boykins, puddle pointers etc seem to be that way. Some nice boykins, puddle pointers out there but most come from specific breeders making strides to improve the breed twords field work. Big bucks and long wait lists for the right caliber of dog. Just my thoughts. I may be wrong.

They are a versatile dog, so they will do both waterfowl and upland.  I watched one in a NAVHDA utility test several years ago.  Very nice looking dog and hunted well.  Overall as a breed, I couldn't tell you much about their personality and tendencies.  Research your breeder well before you buy.
