Ridgefield Refuge Results
« on: October 01, 2017, 05:35:38 PM »
Hey everyone,  I'm just curious what picks you all received from ridgefield. I got a 7th pick. My dad got a 14th pick and two buddies got a 15th and 14th pick. All one pick and high. I'm wondering if it's just bad luck or they messed up the draw again.

I haven't hunted Ridgefield in probably 15 years.  What a joke!  Skybusters, guys yelling at their dogs that won't listen.  I'll take off refuge public hunting any day of the week before I ever set foot there again.

So, are these draws for the whole year? How does it work?

Yes Ridgefield does there draw for the whole year preseason. You can enter a max of 30 picks. Up until a couple years ago they broke it up into 3 different draw dates with a max of 10 picks each session.

I didn't know they drew before the season. The last time I hunted there was with another guy and we went around mid-morning to wait for spots to open up. That was 20 years ago. It seemed like a zoo.

You can still do  that at 10am. they do a draw at 10am to refill blinds, then any time after 10 that you show up you can choose any open blind. You can also show up 1 3/4 hours before shoot time with all the reservation holders. Once all the reservation hunters are taken care of. They will do a standby draw just like they do at 10am to fill any blinds that are open.

Also you can hunt Ridgefield without a dog. All the ponds are very wadable for the most part, There are only a couple spots that can be tricky. But a dog sure does make it easier.

Same as it has been in the past then. Thanks!

Only if you want to. If you lay off the spoonies its possible to kill limits of all good birds. Between my son and I we kill over 100 birds a year down there and there will only be 3 or 4 spoonies in that total. I do like to kill a couple nice drakes in the late season.
