Here Chukar Chukar, HUN!  Raising the heart rate just a bit. Great day so far. Dog is pretty tired. Elk hunters kinda not helping today, but still shot a limit.  Tools of the trade!

Quail hunting's no fun.  My daughter and I tried our hand at it during MF deer. Saw some off a spur road. I stopped the truck and went up the side of the hill, wondering where my daughter was. I missed 3 shots.  Not sure why my daughter was sitting in the truck still, as I could see her gesturing to me, wide-eyed and yelling something. Turns out that her door was blocked by some tall brush. Oops!  Bad dad!
We never got any quail that trip, but it was still fun. She caught a 15 inch Brown trout that afternoon!

Sophie and I did 2 miles this morning +/- 500' elevation gain and was enough for her. She can't do much anymore and I don't want to push her. She had fun retrieving birds and is tired.

She still looks like a young one!

Went out shooting at quick gray blurs in the hills yesterday and today, got two chukar each day. Did some missing and my lab/gsp bumped quite a few. He did make some nice points, so did my buddy's spinone. Mostly low flyers with the dogs in the way, but still a great day!

Gotta love the days of seeing 200+ birds and hearing many more while carrying the wrong weapon to hunt them with.

A few more partridge that won't be making it back to the pear tree. The dogs are looking back at some Chukar singing their tune.

The dog and I ran into 14 coveys of chukar yesterday ranging from 15-40 birds. It was ridiculous. Best day I've had in the spot this year (only been up there twice this year) and know where I'll be focused all next week unless I can still get to another honey hole. Not hunting this weekend as I don't like to increase the chance of giving spots away.

Here's the final bird of yesterday.

I like it! On the big coveys, were there multiple flushes or did they all go at once?
