Antlered Does
« on: October 30, 2017, 06:17:33 PM »
Notched my tag this year with a goofy looking 2x2 with 4 eyeguards that still had velvet. Upon closer inspection I found out it was actually a doe. Has this happened to anyone? Love to hear other stories. I've heard a couple, sounds like elevated testosterone levels can cause it.

By far the heaviest deer I've gotten both in terms of fat and meat. 80 pounds of processed meat prior to packing. (Headshot helped)

I was a tad concerned because I shot it in the bottom of a canyon and had to cut it up to get it out and obviously didn't have the lower half one would expect to accompany the upper.

Maybe it self identified?

I've heard stories about this happening to white tails rarely, and some blame farmers using pesticides who knows what actually causes it.

I saw one of these on meateater once!
Crazy!

Here's a question,
In a 3pt or better unit would a deer like this be legal?

I mean technically it's a 3 point and it doesn't say 3pt or better buck, right?

I mean how would anyone be able to tell before shooting it. Cant really check the equipment under the hood while hunting.

Btw I don't know where this deer was hunted, and was in no way implying that I think he did anything wrong.
I was asking for future reference and like was just said how would you be able to tell anyways.

Gender is never a factor for legal deer.

What about when it is "any buck"
Seems gender specific for legality to me

Look up the definition of a buck in the Big Game regulations. ;)

Many years ago the state issued doe tags for deer and cow tags for elk. Everything now is based on headgear, or lack thereof.

If the genes of these doe-bucks where to multiply we could have a lot more deer to harvest.

Here's mine from 2 years ago, all girl.......except the head gear. Bio says odds are 1 in every 30,000 deer.

It's legal to shoot, but I'm curious about transporting the meat. How can you leave a testicle attached...

If a game warden had serious questions than I am quite sure they would call a wildlife biologist to identify it.

I shot a buck without any nuts.  When I got to the part to skin a nut out and leave it attached to the meat, there was nothing there!    I just took a picture of it with the rack in the pic.  I figured I would just show them the pic.  I was never checked.
