Kori (Hancock) traps

Kori Springs braking. Ok bought a set of replacement Springs Last Summer and had them in the shed. One of my old traps broke a spring this summer. So no big deal it happens. I placed my new trap in the pond and pulled the one trap that broke the spring. Went home and fixed it and put installed the new spring. Went to check the traps the next morning and the new trap that I bought spring broke on the opposite side. Then I put my old trap in its place and and reset that trip. Well the next morning I went to check the traps and the old shop that I just fix the day before was broken again. What the hell is going on? I talked to Koro over the phone and he's never heard of the trucks breaking like that. He ended up sending me to right side and one left to replace the broken ones the ones I purchased. Why haven't used them since I replace them. Well I set the Trap last night about just check the traps. I seen the coral trap was shut I went over there lifted up the Trap and the spring broke again. Has anybody ever had any similar issues because it's costing me a hell of a lot of money to be replacing the springs ever 24 hour. I just don't know. I place the trap in the water halfway in the water. Then wire the back to the stake. I have been doing this the same way for years. Hmmmmm. I don't think he will replace anymore under warranty. I just can't figure out what's going on. Does anyone have any suggestions that uses these traps.

I just replaced it and set the trap in the shop. I hope in 24 hour the trap is still good. Crossing my fingers hell I am going to set all 3 even the new one to test them to. I emailed James from Koro and sent pictures will see what he has to say.

Possibly a bad heat-treated batch of springs?  Too brittle... 

Sounds like it is the same (more or less) type break each time?

Can you find a different manufacturer/brand spring that will fit and give it a try and see if it holds?

it is breaking in the exact same spot. I don't know if there's any other manufacturer that makes that type of spring.

No history with them, so can't say more than maybe contact them and see if they have something or could make you up some. 

Might be too expensive, but worth at least an inquiry so maybe you can them cages back out in the field and walk away assured they will work properly...

I did post it on nuisance Wildlife trapping on Facebook and some people had some same issues years ago with bad Springs. I'm talking with James at Koro about the issues.   he said he only has out of thousands of traps you cells he only has about five a year that have issues. Maybe I just had some bad luck. LOL LOL

Well I've replace the spring so far so good. I had the Trap set for 4 days in the shop nothing broke. I might just have to go in the woods and test them out in the water on beavers and see if it holds.

I spoke with Mike Morris today and I asked him about this. He said he had problems with breaking springs in Koros, never Hancocks. He said the key thing was to never snap the trap out of the water or empty. Dry snapping Koros breaks the spring he thought about 50% of the time.

I never dry fire them. I replaced the springs so far so good. I had them set in the shop for a week all good for now. I just have to see if the new ones hold up.
