Met an old dude
« on: November 20, 2017, 06:04:02 PM »
I pulled into a chukar hunting spot close to town last Friday for a quick hunt.  There was a rig that pulled in just ahead of me.  It was this guy that I thought was 62-65y/o. We chatted for a bit and he asked what I was after, I turned the question on him and he said he was after chukar.  We ended up hunting together and about 30 minutes into it I ask his age.  Turns out he was 79.  He asked me about other places I hunted and every one I named he'd hit in the last month.  He was a tough dude and totally went for it on the steep and gnarly.  I'm 53 and can only hope that I have half the moxie this guy did when I'm his age, (if I live that long).  Anyway, if you're out there Steve, you are a chukar god.

Yea some of those old birds are tough as nails.  Moose Hunted with a guy at 72 that could walk your legs off all day, but hardiest dude I knew was Paul Searles outa Toutle, World Champ logger for 30 years.  He would take trips to visit his son who had a guide biz in BC and he would get out and jog in the mornings while his wife drove alongside.  I think he was pushing 80 then.

I hope to catch a glimpse of the chukar god walking a ridge someday. Chasing these birds is the best health plan a person can follow hands down.

My dad is 76 and hunts with me about half the season until it gets too nasty for him.  He has a Griffon that keeps him in the birds.

You can tell old chukar hunters by the long downhill leg.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.
