good cable chains for offroad?

I can't use real chains on the 2016 Colorado   


I'd like to find some good cable chains for hunting and driving around back roads with snow, rocks, ice and junk

My manual say's not to put chains on the front axle,  wonder why?  There is a suspension component pretty close to the tire but I wonder if it isn't some traction control non-sense.

If you do find traction devices that will fit, install them on the rear tires....Install them on the tires of the rear axle. Do not use chains on the tires of the front axle.

I guess it's just clearance issues, so if I get some chains with "class S clearance" and get them snug I should be ok



I'll air down the tire, install, then air it back up if I have too

Could be a control while breaking issue. That's why shops won't instal new tires only on the front or snow tires only on the front. The fear is that when breaking on slick surfaces, if only the front end bites then the back end could get loose.
I think one of my trucks said to chain all 4 or rear only for that reason.

My Ram has no clearance for any type of chains up front.  So I run wheel spacers.  But I don’t run just front chains -  lil half ton frontends not designed to be primary drive axle.

I ran into this issue with my 2016 Duramax 2500hd.  I put them on the front, but before driving realized they would destroy the front end as there’s no room once things start turning.  I had to run them on the rear.   You could easily run cables on the front and I’ll probably pick up a set next year.   Hunting in Colorado at 9,000’ in November kind of makes chains an important item...

Buy a 9000 lb winch too and you're all set. the front to back type.

It’s really good thing to,find out before you are in a blithering tight spot and you can’t run the chains you’ve been carrying around for just such a circumstance.  Speaking from experience of course.  These new trucks really should be called “snowflakes”

No clearance on the upper control arm, it's just off the tire

how much clearance is enough? I've got about an inch between tire and UCA. the wheelwell is another matter...
