Forest Service Road 74
« on: October 16, 2007, 06:16:15 PM »
Just curious if anyone has hunted FR 74 from Hwy 7 I think it is.  It would be the eastern boundary of Skokumchuk unit.  I was up  there last week scouting but didnt see much hunting area as it is pretty heavily wooded with not many trails.  I went up about 8 miles on 74 and didnt see much.

Hunted it last year a little. Too bad the Forest Service doesn't harvest timber in that area attatched to Vail, it would make for some great hunting. I did find where a monster buck was thrashing the trees about two miles back, but it's so thick, very tough hunting. I used to hunt the northern end of the NF at the end of Pleasant Valley before they closed the road through to the Alder cutoff, took a lot of grouse out of there, passed on a spike and missed a shot at a really nice 4pt. More elk in there than deer now.
