Selway Unit - Idaho
« on: December 27, 2017, 09:42:57 AM »
Hey All,

I had a great time hunting the Selway Unit this last November. Saw a ton of elk and good mule deer bucks and ended up shooting a nice whitetail.

I am planning to head over there next year and do a September hunt. I plan on getting over there this summer to do some scouting as I am not familiar with the elk and deer summer patterns in this area. Not asking for spots but curious if anyone has any knowledge of hunting this unit and if the elk hang around the Salmon River Breaks during the rut in the mule deer country or if they are holed up in the thick whitetail brush above the Breaks?

I appreciate any information. I have plenty of time to do my homework but find myself already trying to plan the hunt.

Thanks,

Sounds like the elk are making a come back in that unit?  I hunted it about 8 to 10 years ago and wolves were right in our camp. Not many elk seen at all in such beautiful country.
“In common with”..... not so much!!

It's been just devastated.  What a sad waste!  There's still pockets of animals, but they're few and far between.
