Big buck bedded...stalk or wait?
« on: December 31, 2017, 08:52:15 AM »
Last day of archery and I've got a nice buck bedded at 61yds uphill in the thick stuff. Wind is good, ground is crunchy and loud. Close the distance and try to sneak an arrow in there? Wait until he moves and then make a plan? Some combination of both? Expert blacktail advice appreciated.

Crunchy ground i would try and wait him out. Check out where he might go to from his bed and find some lanes you can stop him in when your ready to put one through him.

Is this actually live?

If you’re comfortable at 61 yards I’d be waiting it out under those conditions. Let him stand on his own time.

It is better to be consistently incorrect than inconsistently correct...

It is indeed. Im still sitting and watching his ear twitch through the binos. I bumped him from another bed earlier and am thinking about headed back there to wait for him to circle back. Because realistically I've got no shot here and he knows right where i am.

If he stands where he is bedded now do you have a shot?

No, too much brush in the way.

I would stop making any movements, including looking at your phone and let him forget you are there

And the last thing I would do is be on the forum asking for advice. We learn by our mistakes or our successs. Good luck!

Good luck! Last day with buck in sight, I wouldn't be able to control myself. I'd make a move and go after him. Hope to hear of your success
