Idaho Archery Elk in Pioneer Zone
« on: January 17, 2018, 01:26:00 PM »
New Year means New Elk Camp. Yup, Moving to Pioneer Elk Zone with a general Archery A Tag in 2018. Any of you guys on here hunted the area before? I will do some scouting during the spring and summer to learn the road system and as an excuse to be in the woods. If you have some success photos or area photos you want to share that would be great. Any info is welcome. Thanks!
Happy Hunting and Fishing

When I hunted I backpacked in and was basically stuck in one place. I’d find a half dozen spots and some glassing points and be ready to jump around from spot to spot. It should be a great hunt for you and it’ll make you all but give up on hunting WA.

39 has no OTC archery elk season.

Can not believe the number of people I hear of archery hunting the pioneer zone.

I’d go back to the pioneer zone in a second. Also, I’m pretty sure that there as much PUBLIC LAND in that zone as there is on any 18 Washington elk units put together.

I think about half as many as 22. our fish and game has a pretty great web site that shows actual numbers of various filters. including tags bought by year/zone. its a big area that takes a pretty good drive to get too. I wouldn't worry about out of state competition much in there, bigger the area the more to scout

39 isn't in the Pioneer zone, it's 36A, 49 and 50 if I remember correctly.  I hunted 36a three years ago. Steep, rugged country.
