Pig Feeder... Ideas?

I need some help... this is a question that I NEVER thought I'd be asking but need help in finding a feeder for wild hogs. Gravity fed is fine, auto-dispensing also helpful but if someone has ideas as to what works the best I am all ears! Heading down to a friends property in CA to hunt pigs and want to pattern them a bit better using a feeder. Thanks in advance.

Why not use a regular pig feeder and ratchet strap it off to a tree? That's what we use for our domestic pigs keeps it rain free and gravity fed should last at least a week or it does with 4 domestic eating every day at it.

You know, I will admit I have not looked up if it is legal or not. They are considered a game species and we have to buy tags and licenses to hunt them (assinine to me that we need to do this to hunt a species deemed invasive) so I bet they have laws regarding feeding. Will take a look and thanks for the heads up. Could be an expensive and very stupid mistake.

Do you think that a feeder which has an 80lbs capacity would suffice? or larger needed? Also, corn or protein type pellets better? thanks for the help.

I would use a deer feeder to broadcast corn set to your schedule.  If you put out a free feed feeder they'll come on their schedule. 

Also I hear great things about jello, corn and beer.  I haven't done it but I worked with a hog hunter that lived in TX and he swears by using the jello and fermented corn mixture and putting down in a hole.

Omnivores on a mission consuming everything, fermented grain, they are nose oriented, would be a great choice.  Stop in at a microbrew, sample the offerings, buy what fits and ask for some spent grain.

you can use a steel drum and punch some holes in it.  The pigs will roll it around so the corn falls out.

I think 80 lbs is good but I would go as big as you can. You could find an older used one for cheap,  if you have time to look around. Never baited pigs but I would think they are like bears and will eat anything just need some stink around to help them find it. I would use corn because it would slide down easy in the feeder and you wouldn't need to worry about it clogging up. Good luck I am talking with a friend on setting up a pig hunt also would be interested in how it goes. The pigs will beat the crap out of the feeder I am sure but if you secure it well enough you will be good. I have also been told that feeding fermented grain or corn is the ticket.  I would try it .

Well, it seems that the rules and regs are stating that I CANNOT bait any "big game" animal in Commifornia.

Can't kill an animal within 400yds of the bait either.

The fact that an invasive species such as a Wild Pig/Ferrel Hog is even considered a game animal only supports my belief that they just want the money for the licenses and the tags and could really give two S%&t's about controlling the species which is ravaging the wine vineyards and landscape down there... at $160+ for a license and $75 per tag this kinda pisses me off!

But make sure you cable it to something, if the terrain has some slope it might take off. Put holes in the top and bottom run cable thru it two trees, just high enough that they could spin it to get the corn out thru some holes.
