Just got a 6.5x284 heavy barrel should I put a brake on it?

27 in barrel .871 at the muzzle. Just got it in the mail. Guy I got it from in Arizona is 70 yrs old said it has less than a 100 rnds down it. Looks pretty darn good. I think for now I'll just order the headspace guage inlet the barrel channel and see how she does. I'm thinking the gun with the big scope on it will be pushing 14lbs.
