Underquilt for Hammock
« on: February 06, 2018, 10:17:36 AM »
Looking for input for a good underquilt for my hammock, I'm thinking that a 0-10 degree rating would be good. Deer country is October at 7,000 gets chilly. I have found this one through Hammock Gear: http://www.hammockgear.com/incubator-0/ but I'd like to hear any input from people with other good products.

How heavy you wanting to go? I used one of those windshield reflectors to reflect the body heat in the cold

Did you put that underneath a sleeping bag? Or use that between you and the underquilt. That's not a bad way to go. Trying to keep the weight between 2-4 lbs.

I used it inside as on the outside things want to slide or bunch up and you then have cold spots. If you were going with a quilt I would also put it inside unless you are compromised for room. I have a Big Agnes bag that has a sleeve where the pad slides into keeping it from sliding out from underneath you.

I looked at that bag. Hard to pull the trigger on all this stuff. I think for hammocking, an underquilt is my best option for maximizing the insulation from down since I won't be lying on it and squishing it down. If I do the underquilt then maybe layer that windshield reflector underneath me...hm. Intriguing.
