first roosters
« on: March 08, 2018, 09:42:34 AM »
Late post.

I have been trying to get out and go on a pheasant hunt for probably 10 years up to the point I finally was able to goNovember of last year. Me and a good friend had made a long drive over the passes. Our original goal was killing waterfowl which was quite slow this day we were hunting. Shots could be heard in the distance, and so it was decided to try and shoot some rooster cocks  :chuckle: So, off we went, bird dog banks working hard. It was far from what I had envisioned a pheasant hunt. I was expecting a line that was slow moving, definitely wrong. It was mainly a sprint around the desert, keeping up with banks. Not long after, banks was acting pretty birdy. I rushed into position just in time,"rooster"! I pulled my shotgun up and dropped my first pheasant, immediately  a second bird flushed and met a similar fate from the barrel of my 870. Man, what a rush! We worked our way back towards our rig in a big circle, letting the dog banks work. Not more than 15 minutes later, we were limited. It was a blessing, as I found on a few future hunts, pheasant are hard some days. Also had a bonus of smacking a few banded geese. Also my first band
