A good ou shotgun under 700.00
« on: March 11, 2018, 06:55:14 PM »
Well I’m looking for a ou shotgun. Unfortunately don’t know squat about them I once shot a browning citori once. I saw a cz woodchuck g2 in 12 gauge I found a place that had 3 of them. Just don’t know anything about them. I was going to use it for chukars, quail and pheasant. May just get a stoeger m3000. Not even sure if u can get a good one for 700.00 most of the ones I see are 1500.00.

Occasionally you'll find a used Ruger Red Label for sale at that price point.

I have a 20 gauge Beretta golden snipe made in 1968.  Shoulders and shoots like a dream for me.  You'll find something yhat fits you that is nice, for that budget.

You can’t get a good new O/U for that price.  However, if you search really hard, you should be able to find a Miroku for that price, or maybe $100-$200 more.  Believe me, that extra $100-$200 will be money WELL spent.  Most people have no idea what a Miroku is, but essentially, it’s a Browning. And when I say essentially, if you look on the side of many Brownings you will see Miroku on the side.  Miroku is a Japanese firm that makes many of the Browning O/U’s.  They are phenomenal guns but not well known in the US because Miroku agreed not to import Miroku branded guns into the US when they started making Brownings.  With that said, across the pond Mirokus are well regarded as some of the best functioning guns Money can buy.  They are easily on par with any Browning or Beretta, and many people say they are better.  (Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge).  IMO, I wouldn’t waste money on a CZ or Stoeger, guns with very little resale value, when you can get a much better gun for about the same price, that will slowly go up in value.

In friendly disagreement, I am very pleased with my Stevens Model 555 in 28 Ga.; nice wood and on a true 28 Ga. frame at a nice price.

The CZ Teal O/U gets good reviews as well and Sportsman's Warehouse had them on sale a short time ago.

And yes...M_59's Citori is the one to buy; I own a Citori Satin Hunter that I have hunted waterfowl with for years.

Valmet are pretty high quality, sell a lot of times in your price range...lock up similarly to a 3200.

I’m nore than pleased with my Griffin and Howe Arrieta, but the second I shouldered a Purdey, I could see that the two guns werent in the same league.  CZ’s and Stevens are Turkish guns, and 99% of  Turkish guns have a long way to go before they match the quality of a B gun or Miroku.  Not to say they won’t get there, but as of now, they aren’t.  Spanish guns were the same way a long time ago as well, but the Spaniards figured it out and have since made phenomenal guns, but at nowhere near the price point of a Turkish gun.  One good thing I’ll say about Turkish guns is typically, the wood quality is WAY above the rest of the gun. You can’t say the same about lower grade Berettas.

Here are a couple of pics of the Citori. It is easier to post here than to try and send them to everyone that wants to see it.

Point and shoot, if possible, everyone you find.  You will find exactly what you want with patience.  28 gauge for that use would be a great choice, heck, with time you can have one of each, or more.  Early Miroku, SKB, and Valmet are worth a look at that price.  Sabattis might fit.  Take your time. It is a fun ride.
