Probably growing up to be a huge one. The school we were in was all about this size.
Just pulled the shrimp pots, decent haul.

Love me some spot prawns! I used to pull 1-2 pots every 2-3 days and get about a gallon of tails, would never have thought you could get sick of eating shrimp but I did. Six years of limited seafood availability and I am craving my seafood again

If you don’t mind sharing, how did you know the Humboldts were around? Did they show up in your lights?

We saw a big biomass move in at 28-32 fathoms and felt tugs on our bait when we were reeling up through them. My buddy in the pic had a hunch and sent down a squid jig.

Thanks. Fun catch!
Surprised to hear they are that far north in March.

The mantles are going to be calamari, the head & tentacles went back down for halibut bait.
It works.

We got a bunch of humbolts when they were down here a few years back, tried cooking them a number of ways and couldn’t find one that was barely edible. But all the ones we caught were much bigger. We ended up selling them for 50 cents a pound for bait. They make the best halibut bait and crab bait

Skillet, you must eat extremely well, LOL
Hard to find "good" Halibut, squid, or prawns in Oklahoma.
I had to by flash frozen shipped from Alaska for King crab, large scallops and king salmon.

Ya, I don't buy a lot of seafood
Just threw the crab pots out for fun, 14 keepers (6.5"+).
Going to run the prawn pots again, then anchor up for nighttime halibut/humboldt fun. This is starting to feel like work!

Those are just crying for some hot salt water, why ruin the taste with butter and garlic?

Only have a 50# scale on the boat, so don't know what it weighed, but it was 55" long. The smaller one in the pic above was 39#.
